BFL President Jay Golshani publicly apologizes to Adam Ryan For incident at BFL 7 on March 26, 2011

Battlefield Fight League president released the following statement earlier today:
“I owe Adam Ryan owner and head coach of Dynamic MMA in Richmond B.C. an apology. I messed up. I feel I owe him an explanation so I have decided to do it publicly since its coming 3 years later.

In March of 2011, BFL 7 (our first pro card) we had a bout involving one of Adam’s fighters in which his opponent showed to the weigh-ins 18 pounds over the limit for a middleweight pro bout.

Dealing with a greener commission in that city at the time, they put me in a position of being able to put the fight together despite the weight difference. I tried to get the fight camps to agree to the fight if a large portion of other fighter’s show purse could be moved over to Adam’s fighter.

Having done 23 more events since that time dealing with 618 different fighters and 92 fight teams, I realize that under no circumstances should a fight be allowed with one fighter weighing in at 9% higher body weight than his opponent if both fighters have the same amount of experience and skill.

Our goal is to grow the sport, make it mainstream and help all the fighters involved with our organization achieve their ultimate goal. The type of decision I made three years ago regarding this incident was a mistake, I messed up and once again I would like to publicly apologize to Adam Ryan.

Hopefully this puts forth a good example for everyone involved with the sport of MMA including the people who set out the rules and guidelines for the sport of MMA in our province and they don’t make similar type of mistakes from lack of experience”
