Dwyer vs. Brakefield to Headline BFL 6

Battlefield Fight League has announced a 175 pound-catch weight superfight as the main event for BFL 6 on March 12th from Edgewater Casino Resort in Richmond, B.C.

Matt Dwyer, returning to Battlefield after a six month absence, will face perhaps the stiffest test of his career as he takes on BFL’s top wrestler Micah Brakefield. The Dwyer-Brakefield matchup will headline a stacked card which will also include the return of Chris Day, David Kennedy and Tristan Storrs.

Dwyer (7-3) who holds impressive victories over Yusuf Njie, Sean Zubor and Jonathan Agnew, is eagerly eyeing a Battlefield welterweight title shot. The Kelowna native has won 4 out of his last 5 fights-the biggest of those victories being a third-round TKO victory over Revolution Fight Team’s Yusuf Njie. Dwyer made his Battlefield debut back in BFL 1 and catapulted to the top of the ranks with his aggressive, crowd-pleasing style. A fan Favourite, Dwyer worked his way into title contention by taking out Sean Zubor. Dwyer fell short in his quest for battlefield title shot by dropping a tough fought battle to Battlefield’s Welterweight champ Jacen Brooks. Brakefield (2-0) holds a notable win over pro fighter Nathan Swayze and a stoppage victory over
Andre Silva. Brakefield who is a member of the Simon Fraser University Wrestling powerhouse, is widely considered to be the best wrestler in the Battlefield Organization.

“Dwyer has beat the toughest guys in our welterweight division and he gave brooks all he could
Handle in a very close fight, so he is definitely next in line for a welterweight title shot. We want to give the fans the most intriguing matchups there is, and right now Dwyer-Brakefield at a catch weight of 75 makes the most sense. Brakefield usually fights at 185, he has dominated his opponents at the 85 division, and he should give Matt problems with his superior wrestling and his strength advantage. At 175 pounds this should be a very good fight and definitely worthy of main-event status.” Stated Golshani.

Tickets for Battlefield 6 will go on Sale Monday January 17th, 2011 at 10AM through Ticketmaster.ca.
